Smart Way to Choose Food Products on The Market

The following are several things you need to pay attention to before deciding to buy food products on the market:

  1. The packaging condition. You need to check whether the packaging is still in good condition before buying the food products. Make sure the seal is not broken, still hermetically sealed, no bulging, dent, or any other possible leaking.
  2. Product’s name. This is very important since you might end up buying the wrong type of products if not paying attention to the product’s name. For example if you should buy formula milk for your infant but instead buying the growing up formula for toddler, or buying the wrong flavor.
  3. Manufacturer’s name and address. You might wanna know the origin of the product and factory before buying.
  4. FDA/BPOM number or other local authority approval numbers. This is important to guarantee the safety of the food products.
  5. Expiry Date/Best Before. This is important for the food safety to ensure you don’t buy the spoiled food.
  6. Nutrition facts and claims. This is very important for your health. Especially if you have any food allergies or have certain conditions (for example: diabetes, lactose intolerance, coronary heart disease, etc) that make you have food restrictions.
  7. Storage instruction. Some of food products need to be stored in freezer, refrigerator and other food can be stored in room temperature. Please follow the instruction to maintain the food quality.
  8. Composition. The composition or ingredients of food products are usually listed in order from the biggest part to the smallest part. Please pay attention especially to the food additives used in the products. The less food additives used in the food products the better.
  9. Netto. This is the net weight of food products without packaging. You need to pay attention especially if you want to cook or bake by following certain recipes, or you just wanna make sure that the food products that you buy is sufficient for your whole family.
  10. Price. This is also related to the netto of food products. Sometimes the price is cheaper because the product’s volume also smaller.
  11. Halal Logo. This is important for muslim consumers.
